About

Throughout the years conservation has become more and more of a popular topic of conversation. Where previously it was perceived to be an interest linked to individuals that… don’t struggle for cash, shall we say; documentary’s such as Black Fish and Virunga, accompanied by social media, have made made it much more accessible to the wider population.

My siblings and I were lucky to have had travel-curious parents, who would save up their money throughout the year and whisk us away to far fetched destinations that British 5 years olds wouldn’t normally come across. My first memory of a family holiday was in Borneo, marching through the rainforest in search of Orangutans. Our guide, Ray, pointed out a bird eating tarantula larger than my still tiny head and the fascination began. I remember the Proboscis monkeys who’s howl sounded remarkably like laughter. My dad had my in hysterics as he pretended to tell them off for laughing at him. However it wasn’t just exotic wildlife that captivated me.

Having a Veterinarian for a mum led to some interesting pets, such as pot bellied pigs, hedgehogs and the occasional bat that had been rescued from forest pathways.

Within this blog I hope to share my experiences and open discussions about conservation issues that are growing more and more important.
